Preparation and Characterization of Nanocrystalline Gadolinium Oxide Powders and Films

Due to its magnetic, electrical, absorption, and emission properties, nanoscale gadolinium oxide is widely used in various fields. In this research, nanocrystalline Gd2O3 powders and films on glass substrates have been produced by the extraction-pyrolytic method. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the formation of single phase Gd2O3 with cubic crystal structure and the mean crystallite size from 9 to 25 nm in all produced materials. The morphology of samples has been characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
Fluorimetric determination of amphetamine in urine by flow injection with on-line liquid–liquid extraction

Abstract Determination of amphetamine in urine was performed by batch and flow injection methodologies. The suitable experimental conditions for fluorimetric measurements were established. The liquid–liquid extraction was carried out at pH 13 using diethyl ether as extracting reagent. The measurement conditions were 260 nm and 277 nm for excitation and emission wavelengths, respectively. The method requires standard addition calibration and Youden blank correction. The influence of the main metabolites of amphetamine and metamphetamine were studied. The accuracy and precision of the proposed method was tested and the method is adapted to the flow injection procedure with on-line extraction.

Abstract In this study a fast and sensitive method was developed for the quantitative determination of six dialkyl phosphates (DAPs) in human urine using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Analysis of ecstasy in oral fluid by ion mobility spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy after liquid-liquid extraction.

We developed and evaluated two different strategies for determining abuse drugs based on (i) the analysis of saliva by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) after thermal desorption and (ii) the joint use of IMS and infrared (IR) spectroscopy after liquid-liquid microextraction (LLME) to enable the sensitivity-enhanced detection and double confirmation of ecstasy (MDMA) abuse. Both strategies proved effective for the intended purpose. A sensitive HPLC assay for all-trans-retinol, alpha-tocopherol, and gamma-tocopherols in human serum and plasma is reported. Sample preparation is performed in one step and involves precipitation of proteins and extraction of lipids with two volumes of an ethanol-chloroform mixture (3:1, v/v) without I.S. addition. The H-0.3 liquid-liquid centrifuge applied for rapid and efficient separation of two liquid phases, and the HG-0.1 gas-liquid centrifuge used to separate the gas phase stemming from a gas jet transportation system and the liquid phase, have been further improved. New centrifuges have been produced of PEEK, a plastic material, which makes them resistant to most aqueous and organic solutions. The performance with respect to time behavior and phase purity is comparable to the titanium centrifuges used so far. The H-0.3 centrifuge has been applied to solvent extraction studies of Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W and Pa from HF solutions into tri-n-octylamine.
